Update on Canal works
The Canal & River Trust are going to try a temporary fix to let the canal reopen in the next two weeks. Web ll do this by clearing the bed of the canal and placing supports over the top of the culvert to reduce the weight on them and prevent it collapsing further, and then relining over the top to prevent leakage through from the canal into the culvert. It is hoped this work will be done by 9th July.
“The design work on the permanent fix can then continue until approximately September, then we can plan the works in canal closure window this winter if all goes well with the temporary fix.”
The tow path will be closed while the temporary fix is carried out and then again in the winter for several months while the permanant repair is done.
Public Rights of Way
There has been a rise in walkers straying from the public rights of way on farm land and leaving gates open causing extra work for farmers who have to round up stray animals. Please respect the countryside code. A screenshot of the rights of way around Bradley is below but a more detailed map can be found on the NYCC website at:

The Greening of Bradley
The greening of Bradley project continues with further flowering cherry trees planted. Thanks to cllr Andy Brown, and the generosity of Twin Locks Nursery we have continued to plant this year. As last year was very dry it’s thanks to John and Fran Lofthouse that last year’s planting survived. The photo below shows the first planting in full blossom. It is intended to plant more in the future.
New traffic islands on the A629
Following concerns of crossing the A629 at the junction with Ings Lane which were highlighted in the consultation for the Neighbourhood Plan and a public meeting held in October 2017, Bradleys Both Parish Council has been working with the local authority to improve the situation, especially for pedestrians trying to access the bus stops.
We are pleased to announce that work is due to start in March 2019 to install one traffic island and a pedestrian island at the junction of the A629/Ings Lane. Funding the work, which will cost B#15,000, has been raised jointly by Bradleys Both Parish Council, North Yorkshire County Council and the Police, Fire & Crime Commissioners Office.
Most of the work will be carried out overnight and is expected to be finished by 31st March 2019.
Bradleys Both Parish Council would like to thank North Yorkshire County Council, the Police, Fire and Crime Commissionerb s Office and especially District Cllr Patrick Mulligan and Ward Cllr Andy Brown for their contributions to this important safety issue.
